A Word, Please! 2025 Edition

Happy New Year and Welcome to 2025!
What will make your heart sing this year?
How will you embrace joy and purpose?
How will you put yourself first?

For the past five years, I have chosen a single word to be my personal “theme” or mantra for the year—a guiding light to keep me focused and inspired. I’ve shared this tradition with family and friends, and it’s become a shared journey of intention-setting and reflection. Last year I shared this exercise with you, inviting you to join me. I was overwhelmed by the positive response and grateful that you chose to participate! So, I invite you to join me once again.

My process begins each December, giving me time to reflect and align before the new year arrives. Alongside choosing a word, I pick a physical reminder to carry with me—a bracelet, keychain, or, for this year, a small desk token. This little anchor keeps my intention front and center, reminding me of my focus every day.

Choosing your word can be a simple, intuitive moment or a thoughtful exploration. I like to revisit the words I’ve selected in past years, reflecting on the growth, challenges, and lessons they brought. Then I ask: What do I most need this year? What will empower and uplift me? The process is meaningful and invigorating, setting a powerful tone for the year ahead.

Here’s how you can find your word: Take a stack of sticky notes—the more colorful, the better! Set a timer for 15 minutes and brainstorm words that resonate with you. Write one word per note and stick them on a wall to create your “word wall.” Step back, reflect, and start narrowing your choices. Remove words that don’t spark excitement or inspiration, focusing on those that feel deeply meaningful. When you’re down to three, consider your hopes and desires for the year. Let the one word that truly shines claim its place as your mantra for 2025.

Once you’ve chosen your word, find ways to keep it alive in your daily life. Maybe it’s a bracelet or a sticky note on your mirror, or perhaps you’ll weave it into journaling or meditation practices. The key is to make it your own—there are no rules, only what resonates with you. For me, my word serves as a source of inspiration, a grounding force, and a reminder of what truly matters, especially during challenging moments.

When I work with clients, we often do this exercise together and use their word as a compass in health coaching or personal training. It’s a powerful tool for focus and motivation, helping align actions with values and goals.

As we embark on 2025, I wish you a year filled with love, kindness, and peace. Let’s commit to making this a year of growth, self-care, and joy. Investing in yourself is the ultimate act of love, and working with a health coach can help you along the way. I’m here to support and cheer you on for what I know will be your most incredible year yet!

With heartfelt love and gratitude  ❤️
