Health Hack: Reviving Winter-Weary Skin

With the effects of a long, cold winter still lingering, this month’s health hack focuses on the largest organ in our body—our skin. After months spent indoors with dry heat running in our homes, along with exposure to cold air and winter winds, our skin can start to feel like it needs a little extra TLC.

Additionally, for women going through menopause, hormonal changes can leave skin feeling drier, less elastic, and sometimes a bit dull.

Here are a few simple ways to give your skin some much‑needed care:

  • Hydrate. Water is one of the best tools we have to support overall hydration—including our skin. If your skin is feeling dry, start from the inside out. Drink your water… bottoms up!

  • Moisturize regularly. A great time to moisturize is right after you bathe or shower. While your skin is still slightly damp, apply your moisturizer of choice. This helps seal in moisture and keeps your skin feeling soft and hydrated.

  • Try this simple hydrating facial. I recently discovered a quick and easy facial recipe that promotes hydration and leaves your skin feeling soft and supple. The best part? Many of you probably already have the ingredients at home.

Hydrating Avocado Facial

Ingredients:
½ ripe avocado
1 tsp olive oil

Blend the avocado and olive oil together until it is smooth. I use my (very old but reliable!) Nutribullet to mix it.

Apply the mixture to your face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Leave it on for about 15 minutes while you relax. Then rinse with warm water, using a soft washcloth to remove any residue. Finish with a light moisturizer and enjoy how soft and hydrated your skin feels.

Caution: Always use care when trying new ingredients on your skin. If you have sensitivities or allergies, do a small patch test first to make sure your skin reacts well.

Enjoy—and cheers to hydrated, healthy skin!
